Telephone

  • WohnzimmerTenants often want to have telephone and internet in their apartment. If you rent an accommodation for a few months, it does not make sense, installing getting a telephone line and DSL. If you have telephone in your flat and if you take a telephone deposit from the tenant, you can only pay it back after you have received the bill - one month later.

    Alternatives:
You can block the telephone for outgoing calls and the tenant is only able to receive incoming calls.
The tenant can also sign a direct debit with Deutsche Telekom, if she or he has a German bank account. In both cases, there won't be any surprises for you, when the next phone bill arrives.
Getting a telephone flatrate for Germany is even better. Tenants are able to call within Germany but they can't call abroad or mobile numbers. Incoming calls from mobile phones and from abroad are possible though.
Crocodilian-Rooms in Berlin is the only rental agency, where you can speciafically look for flats with DSL. DSL and telephone will increase the chances of finding a tenant for your flat and so you should not sign off your contract with your phone company.
