DSL is a must for most tenants. If you want to rent out an apartment in Berlin, you should install DSL. Telephone is less important since most people have a mobile phone or use Skype.
But since DSL and DSL + telephone does not differ too much in price, you could as well have both.
It is best, to order DSL + telephone flatrate for Germany.
If your tenants still wants to use those services, he or she can give the phone company a direct debit authorization (it only makes sense, if your tenants rents for a longer period of time). All this saves you the hassle of sending phone bills to your tenant.
Installing DSL
Meanwhile, there a lots of companies offer DSL and telephone. Unfortunately, there is not a single one we can recommend. Offers and prices change nearly every week.
If you order DSL, you should also make sure that the company send you a technician between 8 and 5 o'clock and you have to spend a whole day waiting (e.g. Alice works like this)
With Deutsche Telekom, you can at least arrange, that you get a time slot of a few hours and the technician will call you one hour in advance.
When ordering, it also makes sense not only to check the price, but also the service. Some companies, like Arcor, charge 0,49 Cent/min if you call them and you are a client already - calls to Deutsche Telekom, e.g., are free.
