Rents in Berlin are still quite cheap, compared to other capitals in Europe, but prices have gone up considerable during the last 3 years. But not only the rents have increased, but also the additional costs, like water, gas, electricity etc. Gas and electricity companies raise their prices nearly every year, and not just a few Euros. This means, that apartment owner have to raise the rents ( all additional costs are normally included) as well.

Rents in Berlin - What rents to expect

Good, central and popular areas are not cheap. The most expensive area in Berlin is Mitte, then comes Prenzlauer Berg, parts of Charlottenburg etc. 

1 Room - Studio Apartment

Prices from 400 - 850 Euro, depending on standard, area, length of rental period etc. Studio apartments for 400 Euro are hard to find and very much in demand, and those flats are mostly rented out for 6 months +. Cheaper apartments are sometimes located in the basement. For 800 Euro, you will get a top quality apartment in a very good location.

2 Room Apartment

2-room apartment means 1 bedroom, 1 living - dining room and kitchen. These apartment are only rented to one person or a couple. Even if there is a sleeping sofa, owners won't accept flatshare.
Prices start at 680 Euro for a very basis style apartment and can go up to 1500 Euro.

3 Room Apartment - Apartment with 2 Bedrooms

Most often with 2 bedrooms, suitable for flatshare. Prices start from 1000 Euro, and apartments in this category nearly always rented for a longer period of time. Normally, there are more requests than apartments available. Stylish 3-room apartments with top quality furnishing and good location, are often 2000 Euro or more, midprice apartments are around 1500 Euro.
